Exclusive picture of the Jaguar F-PACE revealed ahead of Frankfurt Motor Show

The F-PACE ready for launch

Tonight Jaguar will showcase its first ever SUV – the F-PACE – in a dramatic launch ceremony at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The F-Pace has been described by Jaguar as “a performance crossover, blending exhilarating performance with intuitive technology and class leading practicality”. Nothing can be further than the truth when we look at pictures of the F-PACE, which were revealed last week at Chengdu Motor Show in China. The F-PACE combines the performance of the F-Type sports car and the same aluminium intensive architecture as the XE saloon, but the dynamic look of the car makes the F-PACE the first of its kind.

Design Director, Ian Callum, sums the F-PACE up perfectly, “The Jaguar F-PACE inspired by the F-TYPE, represents the perfect balance of style, performance and practicality. It offers a unique combination of Jaguar sports car inspired exterior design, fused beautifully with a thoroughly practical and spacious luxury interior. The F-PACE is our family sports car.”

The F-PACE will go into production at JLR’s Solihull plant in the West Midlands, creating an additional 1300 new jobs. It is expected the car will go on sale in 2016 but the price tag remains unknown.

The countdown to the official launch is nearly over. Watch the dramatic launch at the Frankfurt Motor Show at 7.15pm BST on Jaguar’s website.

Jaguar begins production of new XE

The much-anticipated production of the new Jaguar XE has officially began at the Wolverhampton & Solihull plants, creating £4 billion of work for companies across the UK.

The full scale operation will include the production of Jaguar’s Ingenium four cylinder engine which will power the first of the new Jaguar XEs as they roll of the production line. Later in the year the new Land Rover Discovery Sport will also go into production at the Wolverhampton plant, also powered by the Ingenium engine. JLR announced last year that it was taking on around 200 more people as it geared up for this engine production and the need for further staff will continue to grow for many years. It is anticipated that 1,500 will work at the Wolverhampton factory.

Across the other side of the Midlands, production of the new Jaguar XE’s aluminium body will take place at JLR’s Solihull plant where another 1,300 automotive engineers are being recruited. The Solihull site normally produces Land Rovers and Range Rovers, but will this year make way for the highly anticipated XE. As well as the investment in the Wolverhampton & Solihull plant, JLR has also recently announced further investment by doubling the size of it’s plant in Whitley and pumping £450 million into it’s Castle Bromwich’s site. All this further strengthens JLR position in the West Midlands and the rest of the UK.

JLR purchasing director Ian Harnett said “Jaguar Land Rover is one of the UK’s success stories, not simply because it has seen an upsurge in demand thanks to sustained investment, but because it has been able to support a burgeoning, high-tech highly skilled supply base here in the UK.

“With each successive new or upgraded model, we are seeing the positive impact felt amongst the entire automotive sector which is great news for everyone committed to ensuring the UK remains truly competitive on a global stage.”

Fully autonomous cars in the UK

Connected Cars WILL provide a BIG boost to the Midlands growing automotive sector

A report commissioned by the Society of Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have predicted that connected cars, or more rather the ‘driver-less car’, will have a massive impact on the UKs automotive & manufacturing sector, specifically in the Midlands.

As well as creating a £51 billion opportunity for businesses and potentially thousands of jobs in the automotive manufacturing sector, the report predicts connected cars will also improve road safety, reduce congestion, increase vehicle efficiency and cut c02 emissions.  All this will evidently provide a huge boost for an already growing automotive sector in the Midlands.

Last month we suggested that the fully autonomous car is still a long way off, but new reports have suggested that they may be a lot closer than we first originally thought. The report provided by the SMMT predicts that by 2030 every new car will have some form of connectivity, and this can certainly be evident in cars coming of the production line even today, from the likes of Jaguar, Ford & BMW. More than a quarter of these cars however will become fully autonomous, and research suggests it will prevent more than 25,000 serious accidents on the road.

Last month Jaguar Land Rover announced plans to boost the Midlands automotive industry by investing £400 million at its Castle Bromwich plant in order to build the new Jaguar XE. Furthermore, last week Geely, owner of the London Taxi Company, announced plans to invest a staggering £1 billion in the Midlands to produce its electric-hybrid London Black Cab. This glowing future predicted for the automotive sector will further enhance the UKs car manufacturing sector, which is up more than 50% in the past five years alone.

Finally, the report has forecast that over 320,000 jobs will be created in the UK by 2030 of which 25,000 will be within the automotive manufacturing sector, mainly within the Midlands. This all means that it is a very exciting time to be an automotive engineer!

Whether you are a recent graduate with an automotive-related degree, or you are a professional seeking your next career move in the automotive industry, Edison Technical Recruitment would be delighted to help you in your job search. London Taxi Company to create 1,000 new jobs in Coventry

The firm behind the new London taxi announces plans to invest £250m in its next generation green-cab

  • Coventry to receive new state of the art facility for the next generation London Black Taxi
  • Up to 1,000 jobs will be created
  • Significant increase in production planned from 2018

The UK’s car-making industry received an even bigger boost this week as the man behind the London Taxi Company, Geely, is pumping £250 million into a research, development and assembly plant in Coventry. This in turn will create further jobs and secure long-term economic benefits for the Midlands.

This announcement comes at a time when the company prepares to create it’s next-generation electric and ultra-low emission taxi in light of the new regulations being introduced which will reduce the level of emissions from new taxis.

The Mayor of London, behind the new regulation, said: “The production of zero emission capable vehicles, incorporating the latest state of the art technology, is essential as we strive to create the greenest taxi fleet in the world for London. I warmly welcome Geely’s commitment to building this impressive new factory in Coventry, highlighting the UK’s position as a world leader in the development and manufacturing of ultra low emission technologies.” (The London Taxi Company)

The new plant will have the capacity to assemble up to 36,000 vehicles a year and will significantly increase the UK’s economic growth and the automotive industry as a whole.
