The Future of Autonomous Technology

Research & Development centres are cropping up across the UK in order to keep up with the demand for new autonomous technology.

As a result Land Rover are researching a new remote control technology that represents a stepping stone towards the fully autonomous car. It could be used by the driver to manoeuvre their car out of difficult situations safely or negotiate challenging terrain, whilst walking alongside the car at a maximum speed of 4mph.

Watch the video below to see this technology in action!

Limited Edition Ford Transit Marks 50th Anniversary

The Ford Transit is 50 years old and to mark the occasion, rally specialist M-Sport has teamed up with Van Sport to produce a limited edition Transit van. Replicating the appearance of M-Sport’s Ford Fiesta RS World Rally Car (WRC), the special edition Transit comes complete with a WRC-inspired bodykit and hand-crafted leather interior.

A new exhaust gives the van the thrilling sound expected of a sports car, and the new steering wheel, roof spoiler and lowered suspension adds to this look and feel. A unique numbered plate identifies the limited edition status of the vehicle and an exclusive range of M-Sport branding options allow buyers to specify how they would like the vehicle to look.

M-Sport’s Managing Director Malcolm Wilson said: “This is a fantastic project which we are all extremely proud to be involved in. Combining Ford’s driving dynamics and the Transit’s versatility with Van Sport’s ingenuity and style, this product compliments the M-Sport brand which is all about quality, performance and flair.”

The Rise of Vehicle Technology

As the UKs automotive sector continues to grow, so does the demand for skilled engineers

Over the last couple of years we have seen a huge growth in the automotive industry and it looks to continue for a long time to come.  Key UK OEMs – such as Jaguar Land Rover, Bentley, and Aston Martin – have several new vehicles due to launch in 2015, which has increased the already high demand for skilled engineering staff in this country. According to the Engineering UK 2014 report, overall demand for engineering and manufacturing recruits is up by 40% compared to 2 years ago.  This has meant a huge overall growth in the industry and according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the market grew by 9.4% during 2014.

Edison Technical Recruitment has seen an unprecedented demand for engineers in the last 6 months, especially for highly-qualified technical engineering personnel. The rise in vehicle technology has only added to these pressures, as areas such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, Connected Car technology and suchlike all lead us to the fully autonomous car. All this has lead to huge rise in research & development centres cropping up across the UK and beyond, and with a predicted market worth of  €110 billion by 2020, you can understand why.

John McAuley, Managing Director of Edison Technical expressed these views to Brookson who have quoted him in their Economic Outlook 2015: Automotive Sector. Read the full article by visiting the Brookson website.
